OMEGA SPEEDMASTER NOT THE ONLY WATCH IN SPACE - ASTRONOUT WATCH

NASA has set tight specification to choose watch for their space exploration. Because of this tight condition not even one of watch companies passed, even well known Omega Speedmaster. However Speedmaster 321 mostly full fill NASA criterias

Many people know Omega Speed Master is an astronaut watch, but only a few realize Seiko also plays a role in space time history. History of astronomy has written in 1970 when astronaut worn Seiko Automatic Chronograph cal.6139.

First Seiko space watch is Seiko Automatic Chronograph cal.6139 worn by Colonel Pogue. Although it is not official watch approved by NASA, Colonel Pogue use this watch as his own personal watch along with Speedmaster. 6139 is a basic automatic chronograph with 30 minutes counter and rotating bezel with tachymeter scale. Currently no new model, but vintage one sell around $500 – 600.

Digital Cal.A829

In 1980 Seiko introduced LCD Digital Watch Cal.A829. This is a first time digital space watch watch and popular among astronaut as during that era. Furthermore in 1990 another Seiko Space Navigator introduced in the market.

Richard Garriot one of the astronaut used Seiko Spacewalk in 2008. The watch can stand to -70 degree celcius. He comments, the watch maintained it function although in 4G, hard and tough condition outer space.
